Manual assessment is possible but time consuming and we have developed registration technology called GIQuant to help speed up and automate motility assessment. GIQuant is used in single regions of interest to inspect inflammatory lesions in Crohn’s disease where low motility is often a sign of disease.

Regional & Global assessment

GIQuant can also be used to assess global or segmental bowel motility. In the color-plots below we can see high and low motility at the terminal ileum corresponding to the motility series above. Global assessment in conditions like diabetic neuropathy, pseudo-obstruction or Hirschprung’s can be assessed by placing a region of interest across the whole bowel.

Regional assessment

Using a combination of image registration and insights from conventional high-resolution manometry, spatio-temporal mapping of the GI tract can be performed to provide detail on how the bowel is contracting.
